The Flying Dutch Cancels Swedish Edition over Avicii Flake

The Flying Dutch Cancels Swedish Edition over Avicii Flake
The Avicii spiral continues as another event organizer is burned by booking him. Last week the touring festival known as The Flying Dutch traveled through major cities of, you guessed it, The Netherlands featuring all of our favorite Dutch DJs. For 2016 the festival also promised a Swedish edition featuring legendary Swede Avicii on his final leg of tours, possibly forever. Now, The Flying Dutch has been forced to cancel the entire festival over concerns Avicii will bail at the last minute. Sounds like it’s not too different from trying to organize your festival squad at the last minute.

The festival issued a statement explaining that they watched Avicii cancel stops on his “last tour” and reached out to him to seek assurances he would follow through on their contract for The Flying Dutch. These requests were met with silence from Avicii’s team and they could not vouch for his presence at the festival. To avoid a major last minute disaster the festival pulled the plug and cancelled what would have been Avicii’s final Swedish shows. What began as a farewell victory lap has turned into a tour of disappointment, leaving fans across the world annoyed. To all the other promoters out there with Avicii on your schedule this summer, you might wanna rethink your plans. You can read the full statement below.

Official Statement

Following the last and very successful The Flying Dutch edition of this
past weekend, in three Dutch cities, the organisers now regretfully
announce the cancellation of the Swedish edition. This Swedish version
of The Flying Dutch was to take place on Saturday 30 July in The
Hague, Nijmegen and Den Bosch. Several Swedish top DJs/producers,
including the world famous Avicii, would perform there. The dance
event is now cancelled because Avicii’s management can’t vouch for
the presence of the superstar. The visitors who had already bought
tickets for the shows will of course receive a refund.

“These past weeks we experienced uncertainty because Avicii was cancelling a lot of
shows all over the world,’ says organiser John Ewbank. ‘Our request to Avicii and his
management to provide a guarantee of his attendance at our event went to no avail.
They can’t vouch for his presence. This uncertainty is unacceptable. We can’t do that to
our audience.’ Allan Hardenberg of Alda adds: ‘We regret this very much, also because
these would be his final shows in our country. We understand that the fans will be
disappointed, especially because everyone realises how unique this event would have
been. Everyone who had already bought a ticket will of course receive a refund. They
will be informed by us personally and our website will also contain information about
how to get your money back.”
