JAY-Z’s song “Smile” will be recognized at the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards in April. The touching song, which appears on Hov’s Grammy-nominated album 4:44, details his mother Gloria Carter's journey as a single mother and coming out as a lesbian.
The annual ceremony recognizes “fair, accurate, and inclusive representations the LGBTQ community and the issues that affect their lives.”
Aside from JAY-Z, R&B singers Kehlani and Kelela have been nominated in the Outstanding Music Artist category.
The 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards will be held in Los Angeles on April 12, as well as in New York on May 5.
Meanwhile, JAY-Z will be saluted at Clive Davis’ upcoming star-studded Pre-Grammy party. The rap legend will receive the Industry Icon Award at the event.
According to Page Six, people are desperately trying to nab an invitation to the party, which will take place at the Sheraton in New York on Jan. 27.
Among the artists scheduled to attend the shindig during Grammy Week include Mariah Carey, Migos, Nile Rodgers, Alicia Keys, Lorde, Ludacris, Jennifer Hudson, Migos, Rita Ora, Khalid, Will.i.am, Logic and more.
Our invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. Anyway, salute to JAY-Z for his touching song and GLAAD honor.
