UPDATE 4: Troy Ave has been released from the hospital following his gun shot wound he suffered during the incident. However, as soon as he was released, Troy was arraigned on the aforementioned charges (attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon) and plead not guilty.

Troy’s lawyer Scott Lemon claims to have been the victim in the situation and not the criminal. He released this statement:

“What really happened here is Mr. Collins here is the real victim. The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He (McPhatter) was his bodyguard. He wasn’t shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend. This 11 seconds of video that the NYPD released, it doesn’t say what happened before, it doesn’t say what happened after. The scientific evidence will show he didn’t shoot himself. This was another rush to judgement. In this case he’s the victim and should be treated like the victim.”

UPDATE 2: Despite reports that Maino and his crew were involved with the incident, we can quickly put that to rest. Maino took to Instagram earlier and dispelled those rumors, saying that not only was him or his crew not involved, but that him and Troy and Troy’s team have a good relationship. See the IG post below.

First and foremost my deepest condolences to the family & friends of Ronald Mcphatter who was tragically killed last night. Despite having to cope with more senseless violence. I woke up to the usual FALSE and ridiculous lies being circulated by irresponsible members of the media. What transpired was absolutely NOT the result of MYSELF or ANYBODY IN MY CAMP , ENTOURAGE, TRAVELING PARTY or ORGANIZATION IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. We entered the venue respectfully as always and exited in shocked like all other concertgoers. For the last 5 years Troy Ave, his team and I have had a great working relationship. Not only have we performed and done several songs together but we've had many personal conversations about life our goals and efforts as musicians. Despite media reports to the contrary, there are No "ongoing beefs" or "entourage issues." It always has been and always will be good relations between myself AND MY TEAM and @TroyAve @Hovain @YoungLitoBsB and the BSB crew. Our deepest sympathies again to family of Ronald McPhatter and a speedy recovery to Troy Ave. The movement will not be stopped. #BROOKLYNUNITED #HEARDYOU

Disturbing footage of Troy Ave opening fire at Irving Plaza last night

— Karen Civil (@KarenCivil) May 26, 2016

Original Story:

In an incredibly shocking turn of events, NY rapper Troy Ave has been arrested after allegedly being the shooter at the Irving Plaza shooting that occurred last evening (May 25).

The NY Daily News originally reports:

An up and coming rapper from Brooklyn with a beef was charged Thursday with opening fire backstage at Irving Plaza during a T.I. concert, killing one and wounding two others, police sources said.

Troy Ave, of Crown Heights, accidentally shot himself during the chaos in the leg, sources said. He was charged with reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possession, according to sources.

Troy, who was to perform at the show, had a beef with Maino, who had just left the stage when at least five shots rang out, sources said.

“There is clear video, very graphic video. He walks right out, women all around, and starts shooting his gun,” a source said. “It’s an ongoing rap group rivalry, him and Maino.”

The report says that police waited for the results of the ballistic tests before charging Troy. It’s unclear why Troy allegedly shot his affiliate B$B Banga as the two were close, so it’s very possible it was accidental. Banga’s mother says:

“He actually cared a lot about Troy Ave. My wish is that Troy Ave cared as much about my son as he cared about him. I say that because I watched how my son would always bend over backwards to help him,” Rose said.

“If he (Troy Ave) cared about my son as much as he alleged he does, I would’ve received a call from him. He didn’t call me. He didn’t call any of my other sons.”

We don’t know what to think about this situation other then it’s absolutely crazy. Read the full report from the NY Daily News here.
