2 Chainz once considered running for mayor his hometown College Park, Georgia back in 2015, and while he's yet to formally enter the world politics, the artist born Tauheed Epps maintains his optimism. During a visit to The Daily Show With Trevor Noah on Tuesday night (Nov. 14), Chainz discussed his new Viceland series Most Expensivest and reignited rumors about running for mayor.
For some, Chainz's ambitious plans may seem far-fetched, but the rapper is confident he “can do anything.” What piqued the rapper's interest in running for fice was his “passion” for his hometown — but he didn't meet the requirements needed to run for the position at the time.
If he was given the opportunity to run for mayor, Chainz revealed his first order business would be to legalize marijuana. Why? “Depending on much it is, I think it's a crime that's not that severe, but if it's put on your jacket or something it can affect you for years to come,” he told Noah. “I would just do things in the community, start with things that I'm basically true to that I have my hand in. I would also deal with funding a lot the county programs, sports programs, and things like that because I feel like a lot kids don’t come outside anymore. A lot them either play video games or are on their phones, so I would like to do things in the community to give them something to do 24 hours a day.”
Chainz first toyed with the idea running for mayor after a debate with Nancy Grace about marijuana from 2015. Chainz told XXL, “I'm a musician, not a politician” and confidently declared that, “I'm really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park” following the praise he received after the debate.
